Christmas time is one of the best times of the year. The holiday is filled with festivities, songs, and spirit. One of the best songs of the season is “The Twelve Days of Christmas,” which reminds us that Christmas isn’t confined to one day; it is part of a season which concludes with the Feast of the Epiphany (the Three Wise Men) on January 6. That’s when a lot of Americans put away their Christmas trees.

Trojans Wire has reworked “The Twelve Days of Christmas” song to fit USC and its current level of performance. Trojans Wire is proud to present “The Twelve Days of USC.” We picked 12 things the Trojans need to address or improve upon if they intend to compete for a national title (or at the very least, national prominence) in 2021.

Kedon Slovis has run the gamut of emotions at USC. Last year, he was the wunderkind who Wally Pipp’d blue-chip prospect J.T. Daniels and forced him to transfer to Georgia because Daniels wasn’t going to beat out Slovis for the job. This year Slovis has endured a dip — his stats have declined (even when adjusted for the shorter season) and his decision-making process has been called into question as the result of his play. He has also faced questions about a lingering injury from the 2019 Holiday Bowl against Iowa. At the heart of all these arguments is his interception total. The strange part about this is the fact that his interception total from last year was actually higher than it was this year, though his 2020 total came from half a season, not a full one.

Slovis, a sophomore, called himself out after USC’s defensive aggression triggered a victory over Utah on Saturday night in Salt Lake City. “I don’t think I played very well as a whole,” he said. So when Thor ranks USC Trojans QB Kedon Slovis as the top projected quarterback for fantasy purposes in 2020, you know there’s some serious backing for Slovis this season. Coming in at No.

The reason the interception total gets brought up is that Slovis didn’t have 30 touchdowns complementing his interception total. Slovis threw for 17 touchdowns, but he also played in six fewer games. If we extrapolate Slovis’ stats, he’s likely to have thrown about 12 interceptions. He also would have thrown about 34 touchdowns, to be fair. If Graham Harrell is going to continue to ask more of Slovis in the passing game, he’ll need Slovis to stop throwing picks in critical spots. The Oregon loss is a perfect example of this.
